Vitex agnes-castus ‘Montrose Purple ‘
The Vitex , commonly known as the Lilac Chaste Tree , has many virtues for our Texas gardens .
This native of Southern Europe and Central Asia grows rapidly into a multi-trunk tree with a spread of
10-20' in height and an equally broad, spreading habit. It has a handsome gray-green palmate foliage
that is the perfect backdrop for the profuse bloom it gives forth in late summer into the fall. The blooms are
upright, 6-8" long and primarily bluish-purple although they do come in pink and white. A delight when used as a
specimen, a focal point , but equally beautiful when used to line a driveway or along a property line.
The tree does well here in our Texas soil and heat. Loves the full sun, is drought-tolerant once established
and is virtually pest free ! Prune after every bloom cycle to encourage more bloom .
