This selection of the "squid" agave native to the cliffs of northeastern Mexico has spine-less medium-green leaves that arch upright before re-curving at the leaf tip. This plant is slower to offset, making it a more suitable landscape plant.
Medium sized rosette of fleshy, spine-tipped gray-green leaves with finely toothed margin to 4 to 5 feet tall by 6-10 feet wide. Bright yellow flowers on 20’ branched stalks at maturity. Smaller growing plant with gray leaves that have only tiny marginal spines.
When mature the plant flowers in summer to fall with yellow-green flowers held on a tall branched spike. Plant in full sun with little to no supplemental irrigation required. Hardy to -20° F. Beautiful broad heavy pale leaves
Agave gentryi is a medium-sized rosette-forming succulent with glossy apple green leaves to 4 feet tall by 6 feet wide. This solitary growing plant has strong bud imprints and large teats and teeth along the leaf margin with the leaves folding together distinctively to resemble a mouth full of teeth, hence the name ‘Jaws’.
The leaves have a deep central gutter and regularly spaced small teeth. Flowers are bright yellow on an 8-13 feet tall branched inflorescence in early to mid summer. Cold hardy to 5°F.
’Fatal Attraction’ has narrow dark green leaves with a lighter central mid-stripe.
This charming agave hybrid was selected by agave expert Greg Starr for its nice blue-gray leaves with a sharp burgundy edge. slowly offsetting. Hardy to 20º F. A nice container plant.
Agave ‘Baccarat’ makes a stunning 2’ tall x 3’ wide clump of broad, glaucous leaves, each ending in a large black spine. The stunning silvery bud imprints (not the beer memorabilia) on the leaf backs are reminiscent of cut crystal; hence, the plant was named after Baccarat fine crystal.
A superb, slow-growing garden plant that forms a lush, evergreen mat of 1-inch long, narrow green leaves with white margins. Blooms infrequently, producing short panicles of yellow flowers. Use as a groundcover, in containers, or in hanging baskets. Can tolerate some clay and sandy soils. Waters needs range from dry to normal.
