Cyclamen is used as a cool season annual in southern portions of our region. Requires a shady to morning sun only location; soils should be rich, moist and well drained. Cyclamen is not drought or heat tolerant. It can be prone to root rot on poorly drained sites. Tubers can be lifted as plants go dormant in spring, stored in a cool dry location during summer, and replanted as autumn approaches with the tuber at or slightly above the soil surface.
Plants can be invasive under certain conditions and have naturalized in many locales; clumps need frequent division to maintain prolific flowering. Very durable and adaptable. Tolerates seaside conditions. Has semi-evergreen foliage. Excellent for mass plantings in borders or anywhere for accent. Mulch for winter protection.
